Details

This OOAK Denim Blue Tonal 150g BFL Sock Super Fine Weight Yarn is an elegant choice, perfect for creating a sophisticated shawl. This beautifully dyed one of-a-kind yarn shows off its rich tones of dark blue and indigo, sure to set any knitwear design apart from the rest. Whether for yourself or for a special someone, this unique find is sure to inspire.

One of these big skeins will make a gorgeous lace shawl for those cool summer nights (when we can find them!). Or a couple of solid knee-high socks or a fine lace knit hat and scarf.

As I work toward offering a non-synthetic selection of yarns in support of a sustainable textile product line, this BFL sock fits the non-synthetic supply goal. The yarn is a tough 4-ply, perfect for socks and other wearables.

Instead of nylon, this long-wool fiber makes a sock yarn with an overspun finish. Durable yet soft, this yarn will help you work toward climate friendly garments that will not wear out on the first hand-wash. Eventually, I will also do away with superwashed yarns because the chemical processes required to alter the fiber has its own environmental consequences.

**All colors in the photos are as close as I can get to actual colors. Tones and hues may vary slightly from what you see here because of the way colors are rendered on different screens and how they dye between batches. If you want more than a couple skeins of the same colorway, please consider requesting a custom order.

Gauge Swatch

Standard knitting needle and crochet hook sizes are mere suggestions. You will need to consider many factors to determine the actual size tool you'll need for a specific project. The way your hold your yarn, tension on the yarn, the complexity of your project, and more will figure into the size of your tool for a specific project.

We recommend that you first make a 6" to 8" square swatch in the item pattern using the recommended size tool by the designer. Then, wash and block the swatch and measure its gauge.

To measure the gauge of your swatch, choose a row in the middle of your swatch and lay a ruler or measuring tape on it. Count stitches across 4" of length, then divide by 4. This will give you the number of stitches per inch.

Likewise, measure the number of rows per inch using a ruler or measuring tape in the middle of the swatch for 4" vertical length. Count the rows inside that 4" and divide by 4. This will be your rows per inch.

If you have too many stitches or rows per inch, use a bigger tool and swatch again. If you have too few stitches or rows, use a smaller tool and swatch again. You may need to adjust how you hold the yarn to obtain a close gauge.

Swatching may seem time-consuming but it's more time consuming and frustrating to spend hours working on a project only to have it end up too small or too large for your needs.

Care Instructions for Woolens

Handwash gently all your wool items in only cold water with a mild wool wash, do not agitate or wring, just squeeze gently.

Then, lay the item flat on a towel and roll it up, then press to remove excess water (stepping on it is acceptable!)

Unroll the towel and remove the item, dry flat out of direct sun, and block it, if necessary.

If you happen to have a laundry spinner, these are fantastic for getting water out of your hand-washed items, which means drying time is faster.

Got a stain on your woolens?

Check out this guide for removing it.
